Our Mitzvah Brigade is back!

The Mitzvah Brigade is an active support group for CBA. Our members participate in various in-house and community projects.

Did you see that Janine Armstrong of iDignity has been honored as a WESH 2 CommUNITY Champion on August 25? An excerpt from the news article says:

She says it takes a lot of digging as they work to find social security cards, birth certificates for people in and out of state. And court is involved, that’s where Armstrong says her husband steps in.
“It’s several hundred dollars just to get a hearing and then of course to hire a lawyer. And my husband’s the lawyer for it. iDignity does it all pro-bono,” she says. Armstrong says if it weren’t for her husband and the many other volunteers, many people wouldn’t be able to get jobs, find housing, transportation and more. But without Armstrong, there’d be no iDignity Seminole.

That is why she is a WESH 2 Community Champion. We at CBA applaud Janine and her husband for making this a very worthwhile initiative and look forward to the time that the organization moves away from “by appointment only” so we can get involved again

We are currently collecting toiletries for Safe House Seminole and towels for Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando.

Our ongoing projects include:

A community program that assists the disadvantaged in Central Florida through the complex steps of getting personal identification. Documents like birth certificates, Florida ID cards, and Social Security cards are essential for anyone to fully take part in society.

On an individual basis, our members volunteer to assist this communitywide program.

Ronald McDonald House:

RMH provides a home away from home for families with children receiving treatment at hospitals and medical facilities in Orlando.

Sneakers That Fit:

The Mitzvah Brigade partners with other community groups to provide help make sure children in their community get a decent pair of shoes. Many families are struggling, especially with the economic impact of Covid-19. Schools are reporting that children oftentimes come to school without socks or ill-fitting shoes, or shoes with holes in them. The Mitzvah Brigade believes our children deserve shoes that fit. To make a donation or get involved, please contact the Congregation Beth Am office.

Safe House Of Seminole County:

We collect paper goods, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, shampoos, linens, etc. for the residents.
We also collect infant and toddler clothes as well as adult women’s shoes for them to wear on job interviews.
We deliver fresh fruits every month.
